With the backing
of the Parish Council, the Twinning Association was formed in the
spring of 2003. North Ferriby is twinned with a French village in
Brittany - situated just West of the city of Nantes on the Loire estuary
in North East France. Le
Pellerin is a village with many similarities to North Ferriby, in
a similar location, on the estuary of France's longest river, the
Loire, just a few miles from the regional centre, Nantes. The relationship
between the two villages has been developing steadily, involving
not only the two associations but also primary and secondary schools
on both sides; we hope to be able to add sporting links in coming
months. Any village organisation interested in exploring possible
contacts with a French group with similar interests may contact
one of our committee members.
There is no limit to the levels and types of personal or group involvement
with Le Pellerin. These can be Family and School exchanges, Sports,
Gardening, Flower arranging, Scouts, Guides, Bowls (dare we suggest
this?), Music, Language and Cultural trips, maybe even Work exchange
or Experience.
Everyone
is invited to play a part in this exciting project: it is open for
the whole village and we look forward to many on-going links between
these two special communities.

Chairman's
Report 2010 (pdf file)
Twinning with North Ferriby
could be formalised in 2011
The A.G.M. of the Le Pellerin/North
Ferriby Association last Friday was notable for the surprise announcement
by Chantal Auffray, deputy mayor responsible for democracy and citizenship:
“The Town Hall intends to commence a programme of work in
April 2010 with a view to a formal twinning which could be confirmed
in 2011.”
In this way the Association
will see its original objective transformed into reality. Another
reason for its President, Carole Larroze-Chicot, to celebrate is
the “sign of friendship sent to our English colleagues by
the unanimous decision of our Town Council to name three streets
in Le Pellerin rue de North Ferriby, allée du Humber and
allée du Yorkshire”.
The high point of 2010 will
be a trip to North Ferriby from 13th to 17th April by a delegation
consisting at the moment of over twenty-five Pellerinais. They will
take the Ryan Air flight at their own expense, complete the journey
by coach paid for by the Association, and then be the guests of
English families. Other activities to be continued are the “chat”
evenings which enable members to converse in English (at a cost
of €5 per evening per participant) during a convivial evening
in the home of one of the members. Chats on the subject of cooking
are attracting increasing numbers.
Street Naming
A further unanimous vote [at the Town Council
meeting on Thursday] was passed in favour of the proposal for naming
the new streets in the Les Tulipes development. The main street
connecting the development to the rue de l’Hermitage will
be known as rue de North Ferriby, and two others will be the allée
du Humber (the river flowing past our English partner village) and
the allée du Yorkshire (the English county in which North
Ferriby is located).
